(The office, that is!) Yesterday we got as far as moving everything out, and taping the walls, before we discovered The Boy needed to go to the doctor for his horrible toothache. Yes, I’ve left the wallpaper up. Behind it is a painted wall that is itself painted over wallpaper because as we discovered when we bought this home 12 years ago….when a home is over 125 years old, you *really* don’t want to get into trying to remove the layers of gunk when you just want to do a quick renovation! This is why I still have horsehair and newspaper in my stairwell. So I’ll be adding yet another layer to the walls for someone, long after I’m gone, to either remove or more likely just paint or paper over. (When we redid our kitchen, I took off ELEVEN layers of wallpaper. And that was just to get to the first layer of sheetrock – I don’t know how far I would have to go to get to plaster!)
As a side note, my father in law was telling me this morning that he got his first tooth extracted, at 6 years old, in what is now my son’s bedroom. The rest of the house was a police station! Got to love old, small towns 😛 (And maybe that’s why The Boy is so scared of the dentists…all those years of tooth-pulling screams stored up in his bedroom walls *shudder*)
Anyway, here’s some photos of the room-ready-to-be-painted, and some of the furnishings I have for it.
